Getting Ireland was an adventure all on its own. Flying with a 60lb dog? Not that simple. I found a wonderful company called Pet Relocation who helped coordinate Gertrud’s entire move (petrelocation.com). Rebecca, Irene, and Jennifer communicated with me throughout Gertrud’s entire process. They helped get her paperwork completed so she did not have to be quarantined once she got to Ireland.

Gertrud Beatrice McMuffin-Cunningham (Yep, I’m nuts) on her way from Pennsylvania back to Nebraska.

A bit of background, Rob and I opted to drive to Chicago to get Gertrud loaded on a flight that would go straight over the Atlantic instead of shipping her from Omaha. So we rented a minivan for all our crap, our dog, and her kennel and away we went!

My generalized anxiety disorder is a dull roar at baseline. Driving to Chicago to load Gertrud on a plane then getting onto my own flight to move to a new country had me in full blown panic mode. The numb body, arms tingling, light headedness kind of panic. Rob seemed to be holding it together pretty well. Until…..the flat tire.

On the way to Chicago O’Hare…At least we got the full coverage for the van!

Omaha has a terrible pothole problem. At least, I thought we had a pothole problem. Chicago actually has a pothole problem. We smoked a pothole on our way to the airport to return the van. Rob lost it! I couldn’t stop laughing. I was not sure we were ever actually going to get to Ireland at this point.

My entire life in three bags.

We made it to the airport after driving 20 mph on the interstate, no big deal. Gertrud was in good hands with Pet Relocation and Rob and I made it to O’Hare in one piece so time for a drink….or two.

And 7 hours later. MY NEW HOME!!!

Flying into Dublin Airport

My hope with this blog is for my family and friends to follow along and see all the wonderful things that I’m experiencing. I am a homebody by nature and would never have moved to a different country on my own. I’m so happy my husband, Rob, is taking me on this adventure!
